This is an innovative approach to design, technical design and production, also known as 3D printing. Additive Manufacturing involves adding material to form a product. The first application of this is ‘Selective Laser Melting’ (SLM), in which thin layers of metal powder are placed on a construction platform. A laser then melts the cross-section of the intended product, and this process is repeated until the product is completely built up.
Essential aspects of production technology include measurement and observation. Measuring technology and vision are not only the core of quality, but also of safety. By measuring we mean not only dimensions, shape, position and tolerances, but also variables such as quantity, mass, weight, temperature, pressure, speed, humidity and emissions.
